Organisational structure of the University of Vienna

Full version of the Organisation Plan (pdf)

The approval of the Organisation Plan (March 2004) created the basis for a positive further development of the University of Vienna, ensuring its strong position within Central Europe. The tradition, the history and the self-image of the University of Vienna have given us the right to call ourselves a European, an international university, both now and in the future.

Innovative forms of scientific cooperation

The Organisation Plan has created the opportunity to establish both inter- and intra-faculty research platforms and thus the framework for new ways of scientific cooperation. These research platforms provide an organisational basis for innovative research areas not yet established at the University of Vienna.

More impact through international orientation

The faculties safeguard the strategic abilities of the scientific units beyond the boundaries of institutes or fields of research. New scientific advisory boards allow the faculties to develop an "international perspective" of their own development. The opinions and views of external scientists and academics complement the strategic views of the members of the respective organisational unit and thus ensure international excellence now and in the future.

Improvements in study and teaching

In accordance with the specific requirements of teaching and studying, the directors of the degree programmes draft the courses programme, they deal with any issues of study laws or organisation, and take measures to ensure the quality of teaching. In cooperation with the Study Conferences, comprising an equal number of students and lecturers, they discuss solutions and strategies for improving the organisation of studying and teaching.
